Caminito del Rey: Ready for the adventure?

If you are a great lover of nature and adrenaline, you should definitely visit the Gorge of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, especially the path known as ‘El Caminito del Rey’: A spectacular route between swamps and cliffs that will offer you amazing views.

This natural area is located in the centre of the province, between Álora, Antequera and Ardales. This creates one of the most spectacular landscapes of Malaga mountain range, with steep walls of considerable height, between which the Guadalhorce River flows after passing through the reservoirs of El Chorro, Guadalhorce, Guadalteba and Gaitanejo.

Desfiladero de Los Gaitanes is a canyon excavated by the Guadalhorce River in the municipality of Álora, with access from the north by the Guadalhorce reservoirs and from the south by El Chorro, which at some points is only 10 meters wide and which reaches 700 meters deep.

If we talk about the flora, this area has an enormous wealth of trees and shrubs such as Aleppo pines, stone pines or eucalyptus; in terms of fauna, animals such as mountain birds and small mammals stand out.

By the way, do you know why it's called Caminito del Rey?

The name is mainly due to the footbridges that connect the reservoirs of the north to El Chorro, a work that was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII. Although initially this work was designed to support the hydroelectric power station is now one of the major attractions of this area. In addition, the Caminito del Rey has the Europa Nostra prize for promoting the conservation of cultural heritage.

You can visit the Caminito del Rey and live an unforgettable experience with the excursions: Caminito del Rey from Málaga and Caminito del Rey from Costa del Sol.
