In this full day excursion you will visit the city of Segovia, which is located in Castilla y Leon region. You will be able to take spectacular photos in its famous roman aqueduct and the beautiful Alcazar. Also we will visit the Cathedral (if option selected). In the afternoon we will take you to Toledo. You will start by visiting the outside of the Cathedral and continue with visits to the interior of St. Tomé Church, the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca and the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Finally you will conclude the tour with a panoramic visit at a viewpoint

SEGOVIA AM

Start this full day trip from Madrid in a comfortable bus with guide on board until we reach Castilla y León region. We will enjoy a full day guided tour that will take us to discover the city of Segovia. This city has an old town that was declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1985. Segovia is also famous for its well-preserved roman aqueduct, which is 16 km long, and considered the most important roman civil engineering construction in the Iberian Peninsula. At the end of the medieval times the city was at its peak because was the place where was located the Trastamara Royal Court. In 1474 Queen Isabella I of Castile was crowned in the church of San Miguel. When we arrive in Segovia we will take you on a guided tour through the old town of the city in order to visit the most important monuments. We will see the roman aqueduct and the Cathedral which is located in the Major Square. The visit inside the Cathedral will be able for those people in the group that have chosen this tour option. The rest of the group will have some free time to enjoy the major square, wich is full of bars, restaurants and shops. Afterwards we will walk through the Jewish quarter until reach the Alcazar. This spectacular fortification became one of the favorite residences of the Castilian monarchy, especially the king Alphonse X. Its architecture served as inspiration in some Walt Disney films. Once we finish the Alcazar visit, we will go to the bus for coming back to the Madrid city center.

TOLEDO PM

Start this full day trip from Madrid in a comfortable bus with guide on board. We will reach the Castilla la Mancha region, which has the city of Toledo as a capital. This city has a great artistic beauty because of the mix of almost all the architectural styles (Arabian, Gothic, Mudèjar, Renaissance and baroque). This city it’s known as the “Imperial City” because was the location chosen by the king Charles I for his royal court. Toledo is also known as the “City of the Three Cultures” because Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together. Also it was the place where the famous painter Doménikos Theotokópulos, better known as El Greco, lived.

Itinerary:

Toledo is located 70km away from Madrid, and it’s a beautiful city-museum that has been declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Once we get there, we will begin our tour visiting the outside of the Cathedral, which is one of the most important Gothic Cathedrals in Spain. We will see the Cathedral’s façade from the exterior in order to admire the Gothic style and the great bell tower. Shortly after, we will visit Santo Tomé church, which houses de famous painting named “The Burial of the Lord Orgaz” which is one of the masterpieces from El Greco, the famous painter that lived in Toledo in the XVI century. We will continue our walking until we reach Santa Maria la Blanca church, the next building that we are going to visit. It was built in 1180 as a synagogue and during 211 years had this function until it was expropriated and became a church. Nowadays the building works as a museum. It is a fantastic mudejar style construction with vegetable and geometrical decoration, white walls, octagonal pillars and horseshoe arches. Very close to santa Maria la Blanca we will find San Juan de los Reyes Monastery, the las monument we are going to visit. This building was sponsored by the Queen Elizabeth from Castilla to become the royal mausoleum, actually is owned by a community of monks from the Franciscan Order. The church and the cloister are valuables examples of the Isabelline architectural style and the most important constructions built by the Catholic Monarchs.

At the end of the guided walking tour you will have some free time to enjoy the city by yourself. At the fixed time we will meet again in the bus for the coming back to the city center of Madrid.
